Tax-Efficient Giving Via IRA

If you are at least 70.5 years old and donate to charity, you should become familiar with qualified charitable distributions (QCDs). This could reduce your income tax bill!

The QCD rule allows people over the age of 70 to avoid income tax on up to $100,000 (per year) of distributions made directly to a qualified charity, such as Oak Knoll Lutheran Church.

An additional benefit is that the QCD reduces your adjusted gross income which may reduce your Medicare premiums or the taxes on your Social Security benefits.

To do this, speak with the company

administering your IRA, and tell them you want to set up a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Oak Knoll Lutheran Church. Let them know how much, and how often, you would like to contribute to Oak Knoll.

Then, inform Brooke Ruhlin, our Finance & Facilities Manager at brooke.ruhlin@oklutheran.org that you will be fulfilling your pledge or making your gift in this way. Let her know how much, and how often, Oak Knoll might expect to receive funds from your IRA, and if any of the amount should be directed to any of our Ministry Partners, such as Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry, Our Saviour’s, PCYC, etc.

Thrivent Choice Dollars

Eligible Thrivent members can contribute to organizations they care about and influence how Thrivent distributes certain charitable grant funding through Choice Dollars. Through Thrivent Choice, more than $520 million has been distributed to churches and nonprofits nationwide.

If you’re an eligible Thrivent member and would like to direct your Choice Dollars to Oak Knoll Lutheran Church, simply choose Oak Knoll Lutheran Church as your charitable organization. You can also direct where your funds will be used at Oak Knoll. All undesignated funds go to Oak Knoll’s dedicated building fund. If you would like to direct your Choice Dollars to Oak Knoll Christian Preschool & Childcare, please choose the preschool as your charitable organization.
