Our Beacon Leadership Team called on Oak Knoll to bring in old keys and write messages on key tags to help "Unlock the Metro." Oak Knoll contributed 136 keys to the effort, each with a written message of encouragement to the Metropolitan Council. Thank you!
The Twin Cities Metro area is facing a crisis of affordable housing development in the suburbs. While cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul have their own rental assistance vouchers to distribute and use as a catalyst for creating new affordable housing, most cities are counting on the Met Council to do so. Oak Knoll’s Beacon Leadership Team, alongside other communities of faith, is standing for a solution to the crisis.
On June 14, well over 1,000 keys were delivered to the Metropolitan Council to represent the homes that need to be “unlocked” in our Metro. Beacon members met with the Metro Council chair before attending the meeting of the full council. We asked them to release more rental assistance vouchers to those who need them most, and to not forget that the suburbs need these vouchers too.
Thank you for your engagement and effort around this campaign! If you'd like to learn more about Beacon's work, feel free to speak with one of our Oak Knoll team members: John Burman, Rick Johnson, Jessica Laabs, Suzanne Rudi, Jeanette Strandjord, Jonathan Strandjord, Erika Vickerman.
