Oak Knoll Christian Preschool & Childcare - October 2024

Last month our program ended our summer yoga and music series. We were lucky to have these two wonderful additions to our summer curriculum. In August, we had our NAEYC (National Association of Education of Young Children) visit. This is a special visit that occurs every 5 years, where an assessor audits our program portfolios and observes our teaching practices. Our assessor spent an entire day in our program determining if our program aligned with NAEYC’s values and best practices. We will know our results from our visit in the coming weeks.

In addition to our NAEYC visit, our teaching staff kept busy preparing their classrooms to welcome 50 children and their families. Before the start of the new school year, staff attended trainings in topics such as behavior guidance, OSHA, pediatric CPR, allergy response, and health policies to name a few. In our training days, we were able to plan and prepare for our new group of children. We will be hosting open house visits on September 5th for all families to attend and tour the classrooms, bring in their supplies and meet the classroom teachers. We will start our new school year on September 9th. There are a few remaining preschool and child care spots open in our youngest classrooms for children ages 2/3. If you are interested in learning about our program, please email Kathryn Glorvick at preschool@oklutheran.org.

This year marks a special anniversary for our preschool and child care program. Our program started in the fall of 2004 with limited preschool options for children. In the past 20 years, our program has grown with different programming options available for families expanding to offer all day child care. Part of our program’s journey has included an incredible staff. We have welcomed retirees dedicated to working with young children, we have welcomed high school students, former parents, and many educators with different backgrounds and passions. We have served families with young children the past 20 years, helping children to evolve in to well-rounded, well-loved children of God, all while preparing them for kindergarten. Our program has withstood becoming a COVID tragedy and continued to thrive and grow. This program is more than a preschool with walls, a playground and a motor room. Our program is the first school experience for many children, the first time many children have separated from their parents, the first place that has truly loved them outside of their families. We are so grateful to be part of this community and want to celebrate this special day. Please join our program on September 15th to celebrate our anniversary and fall fest immediately following worship!
