“God’s Work, Our Hands” Helpers
Our children and youth did an amazing job harvesting crops from our Sharing Garden.
Confirmation is in Full Swing
We have 22 youth, grades 6-8, signed up for confirmation this year. We kicked the year off with a parent/youth meeting in the middle of September. In our first regular meeting, we talked about creation. We will be moving through some of Genesis and Exodus in the coming weeks.
Beautiful Violins
Gabby Shetka and Zoe Wieser did an amazing job sharing their musical talent with us during church service in September.
First day of Sunday School
We are excited to start our new Sunday school format on October 1. Children will start worship with their families in the sanctuary. Immediately following the children’s sermon, we will invite Sunday schoolers to join leaders in the Sunday school rooms. Parents can stay in worship for the sermon and prayers, and children can return to worship in time for communion with their families. We will be following the narrative lectionary so children will be hearing the same lessons as the Sunday sermon and scripture.
Bakers in the Kitchen
We had a terrific youth night baking goodies with more than 15 youth in the kitchen! We each enjoyed some treats, but we are also sending some of them as a care package to last year’s graduating seniors—now freshmen in college. It was an extra special night as we got to celebrate Sadie Longo on her birthday!
Calling All Actors for the Christmas Pageant
I know it’s early, but we are already beginning to plan this year’s Christmas pageant. I am once again looking for some older youth and/or adults to fill a few roles. Please reach out to me soon if you are interested!
Youth Activities Showcase
It’s that time of year where activities are aplenty. We want to showcase in our weekly bulletin what Oak Knoll kids are up to. If you have a concert, show, sporting event, competition, or other spectator event, please share the details with me so we can get the word out to those members of the congregation that would like to attend.
Upcoming CYF Events
Sunday School/Confirmation Dinner and Family Night—October 4th at 6pm
As part of our new Sunday school format, we are holding a Wednesday evening dinner and family time once per month. During this time, we invite all confirmation and Sunday school children and families to join in a meal in Fellowship Hall (free-will offering). Following dinner, confirmation students will resume their regular confirmation schedule, and Sunday school youth and families will be invited to join in a special activity. We hope these evenings will offer a chance for families to get to know each other and build a greater community.
3-Year-Olds Bible Milestone—September 8th
All 3-year-olds are invited to take part in the Bible milestone during worship on October 8. We will be inviting the children and their families to come forward as they receive the Spark Story Bible. If you plan to take part in this milestone, please sign up here.
Trunk or Treat—October 25th
Plan your costume and mark your calendars for the annual Trunk or Treat. Confirmation students will once again be running games, and cars will be lined up for the parade of trick or treating.
